Dementia Tipperary: Quality of Life

Dementia Tipperary is a platform to guide you to information, supports and events throughout the county

We know that access to information regarding many aspects of living with dementia or dementia care and support can be difficult to access. This website aims to create a directory of services and supports that would be relevant to maintaining or improving your quality of life if affected by dementia. This information can range from how to contact your local dementia advisor, to how to access aids for independent living, healthcare and community supports, for example.

If you are living with dementia, or caring for someone living with dementia, we know you are likely to need support at some stage, be it from family, friends or neighbours. Sometimes this is not an option so there are a number of other ways you can get help and support. This can come through professionals, special organisations, local home care and day care services, or national helplines.

Meeting other people going through similar experiences can be one of the best ways of learning about dementia, access to supports or simply finding someone to talk to; there are more and more community supports becoming available. Most importantly, people find they facilitate the development of friendship and social networks, that can address some of the isolation that dementia often involves. These can be peer-support meetings, dementia cafes or dementia specific public events.

The Dementia Cafe

A dementia cafe is a welcoming, once monthly meeting for anyone who is affected by dementia. People living with dementia, their families and friends, healthcare professionals, and people who are interested in supporting a dementia inclusive community, are all welcome to attend. Dementia cafes are run either in-person or virtually by local voluntary steering committees, and are always free of charge.
